ANVIL 2017 Programme

ANVIL    Programme for 2017

This year we have again a strong programme of six challenging subjects and because we have two heavily committed outside speakers, days and dates have had to be moved to include one session on a Thursday.  It should however be well worth it.

January 11 (WED)  Dr Derek Hudson.  An Examination of the arguments for the Polaris Nuclear Weapon.

March 14 (Tue) Dominic Lacey.  Plato’s teaching on “Anacyclosis – the theory of political evolution and its relevance today”.

May 17 (Wed) John Baxter.  Rabbi Yeshua (Jesus) and the Buddhist Tradition compared and contrasted.

July 11 (Tues) Graham Stride.  The Legacy of Darwin.

Sept 20th (Wed.)  Julie Arliss.  A Look at the Philosophy of Time.   This is a subject Julie has been working on to present in her Academy conferences.

November 16 (Thurs)  Jonathan Pearce.  Free Will.  Is it an Illusion?  This is a topic which Jonathan has studied carefully and written a book on it. https://www.amazon.co.uk/d/Books/Free-Will-investigation-whether-always/0956694802

We are a structured discussion group welcoming anyone ready to think and explore challenging ideas.  To become an Associate simply means sending me your email address so you can be notified and sent preparatory material.  You only need come to the sessions that interest you.

We meet in the Quaker Barn on Wincanton High Street by the Quaker Meeting House, starting at 7.15 p.m. and you are asked to contribute £3 towards our expenses when you come and email to book one of the 16 places we have for each session.  We also provide generous refreshments and end with an informal social chatting time by 10 p.m.
